Reviving a Legend. The Restoration of a Ferrari 250 GTO, n.3589 GT
2 September 2024 |

This has been the best kept secret in the car world for many years.

We are extremely happy to share in the success of Tom Hartley Jnr’s 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO #3589 GT at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2024. Brandoli played an important role in this extraordinary Ferrari Classiche project by restoring the car’s bodywork.

This car is no ordinary GTO.

In its day, it was an incredibly successful model, not only on account of the many races it won and the speed records it broke, but also because of its unique, new finishes.

This exceptional restoration project was incredibly delicate, as the #3589 GT had been left out in a field, exposed to the sun and rain, for 16 years.

Reuniting the car’s bodywork with its original chassis was a massive challenge.

This is how Roberto Brandoli explains the operation in the video:

‘We removed the non-original bodywork and began to work out how we could refit the old shell. Working together with Ferrari Classiche, we checked everything that needed to be done, starting with the front, which was without doubt the most complicated part as it has so many special features. No changes were made to the frames. So, everything remained exactly as it was when the car was produced in 1962.’

The video also includes comments by:

  • Keith Bluemel, Ferrari historian
  • Tom Hartley Jnr, current custodian of the 250 GTO #3589
  • Andrea Modena, head of Ferrari Classiche
  • Irmo Costantini, bodyshop manager and a Ferrari Classiche consultant
  • Roberto Brandoli, restorer
