Our 750 Monza and 250 GTO mannequins in show in Turin

Until 23 January 2020, the Museo dell’Automobile (Automobile Museum) of Turin is celebrating Sergio Scaglietti, the “Ferrari Tailor”, one hundred years after his birth (1920-2020) with an extraordinary exhibition not to be missed.

The exhibition is dedicated to the work of the Modena body shop mechanic, of whom our father Egidio Brandoli was a pupil, and includes nine cars the bodywork of which was made in Modena at Scaglietti, to a commission by Enzo Ferrari

Moreover, the exhibition also includes two of our precious mannequins. This equipment is still used today to carry out dream car restorations: the Ferrari 750 Monza and the 250 GTO.

We were happy to move some of our precious instruments from Montale to Turin, in order to contribute to offering as much information as possible on the history of the most beautiful cars commissioned by Enzo Ferrari.

We would like to point out straight away the conference not to be missed, scheduled at MAUTO for Saturday 18 January 2020.

The 750 Monza and 250 GTO mannequins

Mannequins were used on the Scaglietti body to create the shell of famous sports cars born in Modena in the 1950s and 1960s.

Today, like then, the mannequin shows the real dimensions of the car and is an essential tool for restoring or repairing the body of classic cars, such as the prestigious Ferrari 750 Monza and Ferrari 250 GTO.

The sculptural aspect of the mannequin, called in Modenese dialect “filoun”, is the result of the sculpting of rods, hand-made with craft expertise deriving from aerodynamic research carried out directly on prototypes of the period.

The MAUTO cars in the tribute to Scaglietti

Those visiting the “A tribute to Sergio Scaglietti” exhibition will make a journey through the life of the Ferrari Tailor, and will be able to admire a Ferrari 250 SWB, a Ferrari 750 Monza, a Dino 246 GTS (model designed for Pininfarina by Aldo Brovarone and Leonardo Fioravanti), a Ferrari 275 GTB 4, a GTB 2, a Ferrari 250 GTL, and a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

A Formula Junior and an Ermini 357 Sport 1500 are added to the list.

The cover: Scaglietti and Brandoli

The cover photo belongs to the Brandoli archives: it shows, from left to right, Roberto Brandoli, Sergio Scaglietti and Egidio Brandoli. It was taken at Montale Rangone (MO) in front of the entrance to our first restoration workshop. It was 12 May 1993. Scaglietti always made frequent visits to our workshop: thanks to his bond with Egidio, but also due to the passion that the Ferrari Tailor always had for the cars designed by him.
